Heart Rate Experiment

Heart Rate

In the days after Science Week, we were keen to continue investigating the world around us.  First of all, we meditated so that we felt completely relaxed. Children found their pulse and counted how many times their heart beat in one minute. We recorded this. We added up the amounts for all of the children and divided our answer by the number of children in the class. This gave us the “average resting heart rate” for our class. We then sprinted and jumped on the spot for one minute. Immediately after this activity we found the average class heart rate using the same methods. Every student’s heart rate had risen and the class average was also higher. Check out our method and results in the sheets below.

Meditation was used to lower heart rate.

Exercise lead to an increase in average heart rate.
